I get both sides, and I think that underscores my problem with having an omnipresent companion. Either have a dual Hot Seat or don’t have this arrangement because it’s awkward to watch someone talk over their shoulder for every question, even though it’s understandable from the contestant’s point of view.

Thoughts on tonight’s episode:
-Julie Bowen played her last few questions really well. The Mount Rushmore deduction was solid trivia work! -More Clock and Super Millionaire music made an appearance during commercial break tosses/returns. Love hearing those cues. I’m looking forward to the fan edits to replicate some of the mixes they’ve put together for the show. -Eric the bus driver played a gutsy game. Too bad we didn’t get to see more of him! -Joel McHale was exceedingly annoying in his appearance tonight. I usually find him fairly amusing, but he needs to take the game a little more seriously next time. I did enjoy his Meredith joke, though.

I have to admit that I was really mad at myself for getting Julie Bowen’s first question wrong, when I should’ve gotten it right or thought about. She certainly showed a lot of guts, and often times, that’s what it comes down to. I got her second question correct tonight, but it was only a guess. The only thing that could’ve made me go for that would be if a lifeline was sure about it without a doubt. The tension sure came that first half hour tonight.
Eric, what can I say? He was easy to root for, actually came across to me as a breath of fresh air as a regular contestant, but why not go with your lifelines? You have them, don’t waste them by leaving them on the table. Jimmy is pretty knowledgeable on a variety of subjects, maybe you could’ve asked him.
I echo the sentiment of RegisFan that Joel McHale is pretty annoying and over the top so far. When even Jimmy says there isn’t this much talking early on, that really says something. So much chit-chat just kills time, and as a diehard, I hate it. I find myself really annoyed when celebrities usually play. I had nothing big against Julie Bowen, and Jane Fonda was awesome, but Tiffany Haddish was annoying, and you can sift through different pages on this thread to get my in-depth thoughts on Nikki Glaser. Let’s just hope Joel McHale can be less annoying next week.
This goes back to what I said earlier in this thread. Watching her tonight had me thinking this was it, I was really thinking it, but again, we know it’s coming, we just don’t know when. We know what to look for, but we are still left in suspense of who it is and when it will happen. Viewers like me could’ve thought we were seeing what was advertised, but tonight wasn’t advertised, as far as I know. People are still on the edge of their seat, I’m sure, during this. The who, what, when and how are still to be determined. You still want to watch and see what the questions are, at least I do.
Speaking of questions, some of these are Chris Harrison era difficult on syndicated Millionaire. When they asked what the K stands for in K-Pop, that was such a straightforward written question that I really liked it like that. If you’re going to have a lengthy question, can it at least be that? They do such a nice job on the ITV reboot in just having straight questions on general knowledge and not any of this funky stuff.
Is it me, or does the hour fly by fast, even with the often annoyingly excessive banter?

The hour sure does fly by! I think it's because as diehard fans it's so good to be back on the set, that we get lost in the show, the lights, and the music.
The show had another drastic drop in ratings this week. It's really sad to watch. People love the show, and want it back. But, ABC got this totally wrong. It's like they are intentionally not giving viewers what they want. ABC knew, that after season 1 people didn't want to see rich people playing for a million dollars. All they had to do was read the Twitter comments. Finally the music and lights guy has gotten a bit better but they went into this unprepared it seems. It has shown on the screen. Huge fan, so glad it's back, love the set, loving Jimmy, but man ABC. I am petrified we are looking at a canceled show sooner than later.

I’m also getting worried. People are bored with a no-stakes game, just like they were 20 years ago.
Recut the episodes and give us several weeks of frontline workers. I bet we’d see the ratings climb as a result!

I bet we’d see the ratings climb as a result! Is it a no-stakes game, though, if somebody like Julie Bowen does what she did? Celebrities are not my favorite either, but there’s no denying last night’s $500,000 moment had that classic Millionaire drama/tension. It had me excited and nervous. Of course, with the cat being let out of the bag, I couldn’t help but think, ‘Is this it? This is it, isn’t it?’ Then when she said she’s seen Tiger King four times, you’d think it was like Donald Fear saying he taught piracy. Only to find out she didn’t know it, and would’ve lost if she went for it, then you find out that somebody else does it. It’s a pretty exciting ordeal. Of course, I’d much rather watch the Oliver Frys and the Eric Baileys, but that was some really good stuff last night.

Then why are less and less people tuning in every week? We are talking down more than half of the viewers from last season, and if the trend continues we will be below 3 million viewers for WWTBAM. Think about that, a show like WWTBAM getting less than 3 million viewers in prime time. ABC will cut the show with this kind of performance. I hate to be negative about the show, but if we don't speak up we won't have Millionaire on the air anymore. I don't want that. I agree with you, Julie going for 500k was exciting, but it's not what the average viewer wants to see. Do it right, like the UK show. Faster finger, walk in intros, coordinated music and lights. Is it a no-stakes game, though, if somebody like Julie Bowen does what she did? I’ve said it multiple times in this thread. Moving the show from Wednesdays to Thursdays breathed new life into this thing. When you have it on at 9:00 p.m. going against Sunday Night Football, who do you expect to win that one?

Exactly what I feared. Hopefully ABC eventually finds a tiny bit of sense and moves it back to Thursdays or a better slot, but I agree. If they don’t, and I pray they have sense, ratings are going to drop, and we won’t see American Millionaire again, at least for a long, long time.

I liked this episode tonight. I don’t liked the way that it ended, but I have to say, Joel McHale was much better tonight. There was some chit chat, but not too much. I didn’t find him annoying tonight until the very end. He didn’t go on and on like Nikki Glaser or Tiffany Haddish did.
Ever since Millionaire came back last month, I thought this was my favorite episode. The questions, most of them, weren’t too ridiculous. I also thought the pacing was terrific tonight compared to past episodes. My heart went out to Tom, in more ways than one tonight. He played the way I’d want to play it - just be no nonsense and answer the questions.

I think they had a chat with Joel between episodes. He was much more serious tonight and ended up playing a good game.
Tom was a good contestant. He took a risk and possibly got swept up in his run of good luck, but ultimately he was fun to watch.

One thing I didn’t like last night was how Jimmy promoted the show as celebrities putting on their thinking caps, and insinuating they were the real heroes - as if there aren’t actually civilians who have been essential workers throughout all of this.
I will say, though, Jimmy did a nice job with the tension and the suspense last night.

I'm trying to give Jimmy a chance, but he just doesn't seem to be getting into it. It seems like he's just going through the motions.
I know he got the job because he's ABC's golden boy, but what about Chris Harrison? He's just as prominent on ABC, and has Millionaire experience under his belt.

I’m certain he has The Bachelor right now.
