Not saying it's a fix all, or even possible, but moving the show back to New York might help generate more excitement as well. It's killing me, I want a season 3, 4, 5, and never ending!!!
Don't forget the Microids game comes out today in the US. I'm waiting for it to drop on the Switch store. Can't wait.

Especially since Kimmel is based in Hollywood and tapes his talk show there.

Yeah, out of all the things you could say that are hampering the show negatively, I wouldn't call setting one of them. As much as we associate Millionaire with NYC, it was a matter of convenience in the first place - Regis kinda lived there, after all. Honestly, just move it to Tuesday nights or something. Sunday/Monday/Thursday should pretty much be completely off the table with football season, so we can't do primetime Thursdays like season 1 and expect things to go better. But Tuesday nights should at least make it competitive.
That said, a cynical part of me thinks ABC is might just be leaving the show out to die because they simply don't care.

Well, you are right of all the things hampering the show I don’t think setting is #1, but moving back to New York would generate more excitement. Like I said it’s not a fix all, and probably not possible especially if they keep Jimmy. From New York everybody Good Night!!

And if it is true ABC is leaving the show to die (which is the worst-case scenario), hopefully Sony trusts a different network (probably NBC) to continue the show.

Well, they’ve been building to this. Let’s just hope the ratings aren’t a disappointment.

{Spoiler}Good for Chef Chang! Also, I love the lighting for the win. The $1,000,000 Total Charity Winnings graphic looks great as well. On another note, it seems they extended the first few notes to repeat themselves on the million dollar win cue. Only problem is that I wish Jimmy showed some more emotion. Look at Jeremy Clarkson in the UK when Donald Fear won a million pounds. Or even in the US version itself, when Regis would react to million-dollar winners with enthusiasm. And why ABC spoiled the win is beyond me. Probably to drive up ratings, but still. Anyway, we got our first celebrity millionaire. Let’s just hope ratings are high enough, at least. If they aren’t, the US version (and possibly further international versions) is most likely doomed.

{Spoiler} Congrats to David Chang, our first ever celebrity to win a million dollars! David was a great contestant. He was calm, took the game seriously, and wasn’t afraid to gamble. Most importantly, he used his lifelines wisely and chose great friends for his companion and Phone-a-Friend. Mina Kimes will go down in history as possibly the best PAF of all time.
The lack of confetti was a bummer, but that was likely a COVID-related decision.
Did anyone catch the new music cue that played post-win? I need to listen a second time to be sure, but I don’t think we’ve heard that song before.
Lastly... why did ABC play a commercial for Jimmy’s show that spoiled the outcome in the break right before the final question? That was disappointing even in light of the last few weeks of foreshadowing.
Overall, this was a great episode!

Man, what a long time coming. For the first time in 17 years, we have a legitimate, no gimmick/asterisk millionaire! I wonder how in the world David sits down with balls that big, I was so spooked because I remember what happened the last time someone went for it on an MDQ involving US presidents and thought I we were certainly headed for a repeat. Matter of fact, I can't remember anyone outside of Basin taking that much of a leap on an MDQ, especially since his PAF was not too certain and rushed in an answer. Never in a million years would I or a lot of people have gone for it. Congrats to him on being the first celebrity millionaire! That said, thank god I didn't come across this spoiler RIGHT IN THE LISTING!!! Did anyone catch the new music cue that played post-win? I need to listen a second time to be sure, but I don’t think we’ve heard that song before. It sounded like they just repeated a few notes over and over again to extend the cue instead of going for the double-length cue we've been using since the syndicated days. Certainly a curious decision.

{Spoiler} What an incredible risk & what a legendary Phone a Friend! Congrats to David Chang & his charity!
But while I'm thrilled that the drought is over & a worthy charity gets so much help, the spoilers (and, while understandable, the lack of confetti) just ruined any excitement I might have had for the win itself. I just wish they'd get someone with a bit more energy to host! Even knowing the outcome, the tension was awesome... until Jimmy just quietly revealed that he'd won the million. Especially without an audience (and after 17 years!), that moment really needed a bit more of a payoff from the host.
Jeremy Clarkson nailed it with the right amount of energy for a big win. And look at Chris Harrison & Cedric the Entertainer (especially Chip Esten's $500,000 win!): the two of them struck a great balance between building tension & paying it off with excitement. I guess I'm just not a fan of Jimmy's hosting style, even on the lower level questions...
Funny enough: I live in Osaka, Japan (famous for the "Curse of the Colonel") & I've already got my KFC on reserve for Christmas! 😂 What a perfect question for David, too!

{Spoiler} Sonicfan49, I’m actually not referring to the extended million dollar win cue. That cue just had the beginning bit looped to fill time. After that cue ended, a new song played while Jimmy and David were talking alongside the giant check. Listen carefully when Jimmy asks how the *bleep* Mina knew the answer.

It’s been more than 24 hours, so, a spoiler tag-free review.
We all knew a celebrity was going to win the million. I had a feeling it’d be Julie Bowen, but alas, it wasn’t. Obviously, it was going to be David Chang, given the hype by ABC leading to last night. I guess we can’t see a Millionaire without the word getting out by the broadcasting company, regardless of which side of the pond the show is airing in.
Still, the tension remains in the how. How is somebody going to win the million? What will be the winning question? I felt good about myself knowing both David Chang’s $250,000 question and his $1,000,000 question before the answers came up. I’m not a comic book person, so I thought A or C for $500,000.
Is that the gutsiest a top prize winner has ever been in the U.S., not just on the last question, but other ones as well? David Chang has some kind of guts/trust in other people. He put his faith into his people, and made history doing so.
That 15th question level of guts was impressive. Mina Kimes said 1800s, so probably Harrison. She was right, but I’m not sure how sound her reasoning was since all of them were 19th Century presidents. She didn’t overly confident, but he trusted her anyway.
Thinking through it, most Millionaires were confident in their answers. John Carpenter, Dan Blonsky, Bob House, Kevin Olmstead, Kevin Smith and Nancy Christie knew or were pretty sure. Joe Trela, Kim Hunt and Ed Toutant were torn, but leaned to the correct answer.
Yet David Chang just decided to go with someone who wasn’t at all confident, came through on the correct answer with logic not overly sound, and he just went for it.
I agree with Jimmy making things not that exciting with his delivery and emotion. It felt like last night was a great moment in spite of Jimmy, not because of him, when I think it’s a hosts job to take a great moment and make it greater. If a civilian ever wins the jackpot with him hosting, please tell me he’ll be better than last night.
I also don’t like how Millionaire seemingly isn’t much of a family show, given its TV rating, Jimmy’s metallic testicles comment - though funny, doesn’t belong in a show like Millionaire, and I think they bleeped a word out, too, after David one. Maybe I’m nitpicking.
I didn’t like the lack of confetti. Maybe it was because of the pandemic, but the UK did it, why not here? The atmosphere after Donald Fear won the million in the UK - lights, confetti, stage, blew David Chang out of the water. The only thing I think I liked better was David Chang had a better reaction to winning and held the giant check high, which is what I would do in that spot.
Now that it’s over and a celebrity has finally won, do we assume ratings go back down again? I dread to think what’s next.
