Greetings to all site members!
In order to protect the work of our community's talented fan game creators (as well as any Millionaire assets that were shared with the community by official show sources and subsequently used in fan-made games), access to the Fan Games Sharing Center is restricted to members who have passed a successful audition. The audition procedure is outlined below. A successful audition will earn an applicant membership in the "Fan Games Board All-Access Pass" member group. Only members of this group are able to view content and make posts in the Fan Games Sharing Center.
Basically, the application process takes place in public, on the boards themselves. Other site members will be able to view your application, and they will post whether they think you should have access to the Fan Games Sharing Center or if they think you are untrustworthy.
The steps in the process are as follows:
1. If you want access to the “Fan Games Sharing Center,” you will have to make a thread in the forum's “Auditions” board. In that thread, you will declare your desire for membership in the "Fan Games Board All-Access Pass" member group.
2. If you are a game creator, you will post brief examples of the work you intend to share, as well as any other additional information about your game developing skills that you would like to make known. Please note that the term "game creator" refers to any site member who has created a video game recreation of the game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. For example, if a member develops standalone software that replicates the game play of the television series, that member would be considered a game creator during the audition process. PowerPoint-based games that are (1) wholly original creations of the applicant and (2) achieve a high level of technical and visual sophistication qualify a member to audition as a game creator. Simpler PowerPoint-based games and games that are based on an existing template are very welcome in the Fan Games Sharing Center and are worthy of being shared, but may not qualify an applicant to audition as a game creator. Whether or not a PowerPoint-based game meets the two criteria above is up to the discretion of the community members who can participate in the vetting process. Creators of other types of software, including but not limited to sound boards, are not considered game creators under this definition and must follow the auditioning procedure for site members who aren't game creators, which is outlined in the next section of this guide. Because some game creators come to the site specifically to share their games and not for discussion, a mandatory waiting period is not required for game developers. However, spending some time on the boards prior to auditioning is encouraged so that you can gain the trust of site members and make a name for yourself in the community.
3. If you’re just a fan who wants to play the games created by others, there is a slightly different protocol that you must follow. You must be an active member of the site for 60 days before you can post your audition thread. Use this time to introduce yourself to the community and contribute to the discussions on the boards. Spend these 60 days wisely. Resurrecting old threads, posting filler comments, or engaging in any other irritating behavior will only frustrate current members and make them less likely to support you later in the process. Once the 60 day waiting period has ended, post your audition and share why you want to gain access to the Fan Games Sharing Center. If possible, talk about who you are in the Millionaire fan community, and, if possible, who else in the community can attest to your trustworthiness.
4. After you post your application, it will be reviewed by other members of the site, especially those who have already gained access to the Fan Games Sharing Center. These members will share their opinions of your application by posting in the application thread that you created. A negative audition vote can be cast by any site member in order to (1) call out an applicant who lacks a sufficient reputation of trustworthiness in the community, (2) call out an applicant who has proven himself/herself to be untrustworthy through past incidents involving the sharing of protected files, or (3) call out an applicant who has broken one of the site rules. If any member casts a "no" vote in your audition based on the criteria above, access to the Fan Games Sharing Center won’t be granted to you. Furthermore, if you receive a negative vote because you have broken a site rule, you will not be eligible to audition again for three months. However, if no one expresses any disapproval of your character, you will be added to the "Fan Games Board All-Access Pass" member group after 2 site members (who have post counts of at least 20) post in your application thread and state that they believe you are trustworthy. In order to prevent applicants from getting friends to vouch for them before a dissenter can voice his or her opinion, applications must remain active for at least 10 days after all requirements have been met before they are considered eligible.
5. After these requirements are met in your application thread and the 10-day waiting period has passed, send me a PM with a link to your application. The staff will review your audition one final time to make sure everything is in order, and then I will add you to the "Fan Games Board All-Access Pass" member group, which will give you unrestricted access to the Fan Games Sharing Center.
All site members are encouraged to participate in the process. I realize that not everyone knows two people on the boards who will vouch for them. For that reason, you are allowed to PM other site members and ask them to voice their approval of you, if you feel doing so is necessary. That being said, you should never annoy a member of the site in an attempt to get them to support you. I guarantee that doing so will not get you the results that you desire. Also, it is important to remember to only post on behalf of someone you honestly believe is trustworthy.
Remember that the entire process takes place in a public setting. Nobody has anything to hide. Please keep in mind that the fan community has had problems in the past with people stealing and abusing the files that contributing members share with the community, particularly when it comes to fan games and official show music. The openness of the process is to make sure that everyone has a chance to share what they know. This system will hopefully prevent the misuse of any of the materials being shared on the site.
Good luck!
