After the primetime edition of Millionaire was complete, the network decided to go with a new host as the syndication version of the show would require Regis to work 5 days a week which they thought Regis couldn't do (Sorry if this isn't exactly what happened but this is what I found, please correct me if I'm wrong). So, in spite of this, Meredith Viera was brought in to be the new host of Millionaire! I personally grew up watching Millionaire with Meredith (who is my favorite host) and thought she was the best host for it as no one else could've done a better job (except Regis of course)
What are your thoughts? Was Meredith a great pick for the syndication version of Millionaire or should they have gone with someone else? Who would it be?

Here's what I think: * ATH starts playing *
I totally agree with you here. Aside from Regis, Meredith is U.S. Millionaire, in my opinion. And the fact that she still does "25 Words or less" makes me kinda sad they didn't ask her to host the 2020/21 seasons, to be honest. (Maybe they did and she declined the offer, IDK). Meredith could be funny or serious, was always rooting for the contestants and you could really see that she enjoyed every minute of hosting the show! Also, I love the fake-outs she did on some questions! Something like "No, it's not a hundred billion, it's ... actually 106.5 billion, but we rounded it down to a hundred billion"! Brilliant!
No offense, Jimmy Kimmel is a good host in general, but I just think that you could see that he's a talk show host and not a game show host. He didn't really seem energetic enough in my opinion. Terry Crews was the other 'extreme': A bit too loud and crazy, so to say. Chris was good! But nothing beats the original, which in my opinion are Reege and Meredith.
And that's my final answer. * ping! *

Her fake-outs are one of my favorites about Meredith! It saddens me that she couldn't host (or refused) the 2020-2021 seasons of Millionaire but she seems to be doing quite well with "25 Words or Less"!

Meredith was a superb host! I was fortunate enough to see her host the show in person and even got to speak with her, and she is extremely kind. I’d love to see her return to Millionaire someday in a future iteration.

Always wanted to meet her or be in the audience when I was a kid watching Millionaire! Regardless, really hope she returns to Millionaire someday as well!

Although I've only seen various clips of the U.S. version over the years, I do agree how both Regis and Meredith were most excellent hosts. Keeping with the style of presentation which Chris Tarrant pioneered (as I'm familiar with), to collectively portray the Millionaire brand powerfully. Particularly with the skill in building tension before revealing an answer. That's something nowadays which I see some hosts aren't quite comparable at, even in other game shows. I think it's quite a fine art to create and sustain suspense of a moment.
So indeed, I think she'd be an ideal host for a new version of the show in the U.S. even nowadays. It might also help viewership numbers, because people will recognise her having an iconic role in making the show what it is. I looked up and see she hosted from 2002 to 2012, which surely makes Meredith one of the longest reigning Millionaire hosts. A key thing is whether she'd want to host it nowadays or not, as it appears she decided to pursue new chapters in her broadcasting career. A bit like Chris has done for touring around the world making documentary series on railways. It's quite understandable there reaches a point where one wants to try something fresh. Yet maybe there's still a desire sometimes to return. Certainly as fans of the show we'd welcome Meredith back.
