tl;dr may apply here. Sorry!
Greetings everyone. I was around here a couple months ago, and showed off my now-five-year-old virtual Millionaire studio in my introduction thread. If I recall, one of you have used Activeworlds before, although I can't remember who.
I didn't want to come back and request access to Fan Games without having something solid and totally awesome to share with all of you. The studio has changed drastically since I first showed it to you. So, without further ado, check out the URLs I've provided below for some almost-HD shots of the set in action, complete with lighting changes and predefined camera movements:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=P01xNSQ4wSE
This video shows a preview of the studio as it is today, complete with a Fastest Finger run-through and ending credits test. It also mentions in the beginning an upcoming event I'm holding. I'll mention that a bit later in the post.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtzEpu6JssM
This video is comprised of the Primetime-style camera movement when a contestant is preparing to play. It seems to match up more with the 10th Anniversary camera than the original, and I don't think that was intentional as I was watching the UK show when I was programming the effect.
Now, onto the event I mentioned. On May 8, 2010, it'll have been five years since the first modernized Millionaire event was announced in Activeworlds. By modernized, I mean using a replica set (events prior to 2005, not held by me or any of my friends used nothing more than a giant box as the set). To celebrate that, I'm holding a huge event on May 8, complete with some pretty sweet prizes. Here's how it's going down:
Gameplay is extraordinarily similar to MPI. Each question is worth an amount of points. You can use these points and exchange them for prizes, like a 1- or 3-month account prepaid in Activeworlds, for example. The points tree is, in order: 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 1k, 2k, 3k, 5k, 10k, 50k, 100k, 250k, 500k, 1 million. Prizes can only be redeemed for 100, 500, 10k, 250k, 1 million, or 5 million points. Naturally, as the points value increases, so do the value of the prizes. I even have a friend who's donating a Netbook PC, worth 5,000,000 points. This means that if one of you want the PC, you have to be at every Millionaire event in Activeworlds, play each time, and win the maximum prize each time. It's very challenging, but extremely rewarding should you succeed.
Of course, all of you are welcome to attend the event and check it out. The videos don't nearly do the set justice. Around the time of the event, I'll be sure to post indepth details how to get there, and when you should show up.
So yea, I think that pretty much covers what I'm doing in line of Millionaire. As far as sounds go, I have the 1999 set, 2008 syndicated set, the UK rave-remix set (mostly), and the 10th Anniversary intro. I don't play the music in the studio, but instead, edit it in in post-production.
I have done PowerPoints in the past. I'm not actively working on them anymore, but you can see past samples at my YouTube channel: youtube.com/markgskwebb
As far as trust goes, I believe there should be no problem. One of the reasons I don't play the music I have live in the studio is because some members, who are here, who have given it to me, have requested that I not release it. In order to use it in the studio, the files have to be on a publicly-accessible server. Not only is that against my host's TOS, but that's against the original agreement I had with the person. You'll also notice that my original PowerPoint videos weren't recorded directly off the screen, but with an external camera; this was done to prevent others from directly ripping the tracks from the video. It proved to be too laborious in the long run, and that's why I discontinued doing it for later videos.
You may call me Mark "GSK" Webb. Let me know what y'all think, and I look forward to hearing your feedback and responses. G'day.
Accessing the Studio
Any of you are welcome to visit the studio at any time. Here's how you do it:
1) Download the software from objects.activeworlds.com/downloads/awb50.exe (you may be required to upgrade)
2) Launch the software, pick a name for yourself, and enter an email address (it can be fake).
3) At the top, find the [Teleport] menu. Click [To...] inside the menu.
4) In the [World] field, type "AWTeen"
4b) In the [Coordinates] field, type "534s 2732e 3a 180"
4c) Press OK or hit the Enter key.
5) It'll take time for the area to load. Once it does, use the arrow keys to walk around, + and - on the numpad to fly up and down, hold down [SHIFT] to walk through walls, [PAGE UP] and [PAGE DOWN] to look up and down, and hold [CTRL] to run faster. If I'm there (as GSK), just lemme know you're from here, and I'll show you what the set can really do.
6) You may have to adjust visiblity. You can do so from the [Visiblity] menu. 120 meters is recommended.
