So, out of boredom yesterday I decided to look at the site of ŽLDPM from the BK era through the Wayback Machine and go to the earliest recorded archive. Turns out that they obtained the license on January 25th, 2001. however the first episode was aired in May 2002. One interesting thing to note is that when you enter the site, at the bottom of it you are greeted with a gif saying 1.000.000 din. instead of 3.000.000 din. Furthermore, by going into the rules, you can confirm they wanted to use the original money tree, which would mean that the top prize was supposed to be worth around €13 333 at that time instead of the €40 000 (or 3 000 000 din, whatever you may wish). I have to say they did a pretty poor job of explaining this, and I'll directly translate it just to prove it: "Number of questions is 15. As the question is shown there are 4 possible answers given contestant has to pick one. A million dinars is the prize if the contestant answers all 15 questions. Breaking points are: 1.000, 8.000, 32.000 dinars etc., and that means that if a contestant who already won 1.000 dinars, continues with answering the questions, and passes the breaking point of 8.000 dinars in case of answering the question incorrectly he has the right of not losing the whole sum of money which he won up to that point but keeps the sum which he won on the guessed breaking point. Which is this case means he keeps 1.000 dinars." As you can tell even on serbian the text doesn't really make sense, but I'm glad they changed it to 3 000 000 din. Another thing to note is that it seems like they made that decision last second, as the 1.000.000 din. gif has been kept up until at least February 2002. The next archived page is on August 2002 which changed the GIF to this: But would have you believed me if I told you that Ivan Zeljković wasn't planned to be the host, but a popular actor Dragan Nikolić? Well, as soon as you enter the page, you get this text: And translated it says: "The crew of BK Television was visiting their colleagues in London where they met with licensed rules of the quiz One of the team members of BK Television that was visiting is our famous actor Dragan Nikolić, who will, when the quiz starts, be it's host. The big popularity of the show depends on long preparations and working, both in the world and in our country." By clicking "VIŠE" (which means "more" on english) we get photos of Dragan himself being on the UK set, sitting in the FFF chair, etc. Here are all the pictures from that page: It seems to me that both the host and the money tree change happened last second, which leaves me wondering what would the show look like if it did come out like this. What do you think? Would this be better or worse for the show? How would it evolve over time, even after BK shut down? Write your thoughts in the comments If you want to see the site for yourself, here is the link for the oldest archive. That's it from me, see you later!

So for my part I am very surprised because knowing that I am sometimes interested in the Serbian version, I have several points to make: Concerning the fact that the Serbian production had the licensing rights in 2001 is absolutely not surprising. Quite simply why the game was launched in May 2002, it takes several months to create the board (I would say 3 months), look for the right facilitator, look for sponsors (especially in Eastern European countries) and above all prepare the right launch. Moreover, I knew that they had the rights in 2001 because a year or two ago, I saw a video where he was promoting the BK channel especially its entire television history and there was a very short extract from "Želite li da Postanete Milioner" and we saw the host (I couldn't see closely if it was Zeljković*) on the seat but it was on the old British studio before it radically changed between May and August 2001 (also it was in 2021 that I learned that the BK channel was closed in 2006 while I knew "Želite li da Postanete Milioner" for the first time in 2010-2011). Concerning the top prize, I think that Serbian production would surely do like their Slavic neighbors, whether Russian, Ukrainian or Croatian. But I think that the Serbian production has surely understood that 1.000.000 dinars is not enough for them and I think that 3.000.000 dinars would have been more judicious (especially since they copied the French production a bit regarding the first top prize which was 3.000.000 F at the time and then the fact that they copied from 1.500 to 48.000 lol) To finish regarding the choice of the host, I admit that I am quite perplexed here, I think that there is a big difference concerning the temperament that Dragan Nikolić could have had and what we know about Ivan Zeljković , despite everything I think that Ivan Zeljković is the right choice since the start of the launch because I saw in him the first fan of his own version (just like Dmitry Dibrov who I think is the host the most fan of the format “Who wants to Be A Millionaire). Now I too would like to know why the Serbian production did not keep Dragan Nikolić at the presentation. I think that would have differentiated it from the other Slavic versions in which the hosts were between 25 and 40 years old at that time. I will state the fact that if BK would have existed at present. I think the original format of the Serbian version (i.e. with the intro, the black graphics that they had updated in 2005, the old studio dating from 2002, the fact of remaining on 3.000.000 of dinars and whether it was presented by Zeljković or Nikolić) I think it would have lasted until 2008. A bit like the Latvian version.
*correction it was Dragan Nikolić who was sitting in Chris Tarrant's seat when he visited the studio of the British version before June 2001

As for me, I have never seen that commercial with Dragan sitting in Chris' hot seat! I am absolutely amazed! Do you have a video of it or just these screenshots? And as for you saying the format would last until 2008, as I said, BK shut in 2006. I don't really think that would be possible.

In fact I found this on a video retracing the history of the BK Televizija channel and right now there was this quick extract. Furthermore, I did say "if BK would have existed at present" so in itself we unfortunately know that the BK channel has stopped. But let's say that the company BK Televizija made a comeback during the year 2017-2020 to only put the television archives of their 12 years of existence. Besides, it is a great shame that the BK archive channel did not broadcast the old episodes of “Želite li da Postanete Milioner”.
Anyway here is the video in question where I was able to find this quick extract which we could see this :

I must agree, I'm very sad that we never got a look at some of the big winners like Raško Rob and that infamous first episode (which to my knowledge is the only episode ever in Serbian history to use the host entrance theme, they usually extend the intro as you may know just to fit in while Zeka quickly runs to the center) and I don't think anyone even asked them for an archive of all the episodes. I'm guessing they didn't re-air them because they lost the license. That's probably the only valid reason.

I'm not too sure if it's the reason for the license that the BK archive channel didn't put the old episodes of Želite li da Postanete Milioner. Because for example around 2002-2003, the Russian channel TNT (ТНТ) rebroadcast О, счастливчик! (the first Russian version of the format) while at the same time, there was Кто хочет стать миллионером? (the second Russian version of the format) on the Pervý kanal channel since 2001.
No in itself I think that it is surely a question of advertising editing, that is to say how we were able to make the Russian channel TNT by removing as much as possible the advertising sponsors as well as the telephone number which could display at the bottom of the screen.

I was aware that TNT was airing Schastlivchik parallel with KHSM, however I didn't know they didn't need a license for it. So, here's what I've done: I asked BK directly why they don't upload them (both Milioner and the weakest link), both on Facebook and via email. I will post here if they reply. Fingers crossed!

If I'm not mistaken, it was not the same production as the one that currently produces the Serbian version. Must see. As a reminder, Zeka bought the Advantage production where the B92 and Priva version of “Želite li da Postanete milioner” was produced.
