Hello everyone! Just wanted to take a moment to see how everyone got into watching Millionaire and wanting to create games and keep up to date with the latest info about it?
For me, it all started back when I was probably 4-6 years old when my parents and I had cable. And one thing led to another and I was watching game shows constantly, specifically on GSN and ABC! I started with Millionaire and I was hooked from the get-go with trivia questions! The trivia got me interested as it was a thing I could also play at home while watching (guessing the answers to see if I could be right lol). Then it was the lights going up and down after each question (that was always satisfying for me) and the awesome music! My parents didn't like it how I was always watching Millionaire but I couldn't care less! I continued watching it until the dreadful Shuffle Format. Millionaire is still an awesome game show and love having this wonderful community to talk about it!

I had been into game shows since I was a baby. Mostly Wheel, Jeopardy, and Price.
I was nine when Millionaire premiered. My first glimpse of it was when my dad was channel surfing, and we joined David Honea's $32,000 question in progress. Obviously a great time to tune in.

I've been in to game/quiz shows since 2017 when someone recommended that I watch The Crystal Maze. I still adore that programme and it still has a very special place in my heart. The reason I got into WWTBAM? is because The Crystal Maze used to air on Challenge, which is basically British GSN, although it hasn't made any game shows of its own since 2012 sadly. Then I would watch other shows that aired before/after it (in 2017, that would be Takeshi's Castle beforehand and Ninja Warrior/Sasuke afterwards), and then I would watch the channel on weekends, which is how I got into Catchphrase, Family Fortunes, and, above all, WWTBAM (by 2018). Then, presumably as it had broadcast series 21 at the time I started watching it, I saw a Rave episode from either series 22 or 23, and I absolutely loved it (although some purists think otherwise, I think the UK version should switch to Rave Olga-era rather than what it is now). I briefly wasn't interested in it between 2020 and 2021 (likely because lockdown gave me a bit of wanderlust), sadly meaning that I missed the one opportunity to see a UK millionaire on its airing day. Oh well... Then, in September 2021, I came across Millionaire Fans, and my passion for the show has come back stronger than ever.
Long live Millionaire!

Back in 1999,I was a first grader who had just learned how to read. I remember that almost all the game shows on greek tv so far had the same "classic '90s" style. Bright colored studio, strong lights, stands with buzzers and score display, cars, appliances and other prices permanently placed in the corner of the studio, cheeesy music etc. When "Millionaire" came out,it immediately stood out because it was ahead of its time and broke all that clichés. The set,the lights, the music, everything was like it came from the future.I think that it was also the first game show on greek tv that had a top prize of 50 million Drachmes. So Millionaire was a true pioneer in the history of game shows.Because it was so pleasantly different from every other game show so far, immediately got my attention and became a part of my daily television routine. I was pretty excited and nostalgic when it came back in 2022 after a 16 year hiatus, because it had been a part of my childhood for many years.

About your observations of "classic '90s" game shows in Greece, they seemed to follow the UK game shows quite faithfully. Kontres used many sounds from Family Fortunes, and Vres Ti Frasi seems to just be British Catchphrase from around 1995-98 with different graphics and a few changes. I found them on YT some months ago and it certainly reminded me of watching classic game shows in the UK on Challenge!

Everything is copied from British and American formats."Kontres" was shown until 1995,then the name changed to "Kontra Plake" until 1999,and the host was Spiros Papadopoulos who hosted Millionaire afterwards.Today the format has been revived as "5x5" but with big changes on set, graphics, music, hosts etc.Vres ti frasi was shown from 1998 until 2001.It's a pity we don't have a specialized channel to air old episodes of classic game shows like Challenge in the UK

I understand why you may have been disappointed by the lack of originality (particularly by 5x5, which is really similar to US Family Feud), but, as a non-Greek person who has grown up watching UK game shows, watching the earlier Mega productions made me feel quite excited because of the familiarity. It seems that Greece had really given up on game shows in 2011-21, as is evident by WWTBAM Hot Seat, "Fast Money!" and "Akou ti eipan!", the latter of which just being cheap Family Feud versions which used lots of sounds from All-Star Family Fortunes (the 2006-15 UK celebrity version) but nothing else in common. (I can understand why given the 2014-21 economic crisis in Greece, but it's a bit annoying to see a country give up so hugely on classic game shows - almost at Venezuela or Azerbaijan levels).

For me, it all started back in late 2010 with the Hot Seat version of Vietnamese Millionaire. However, I didn't watch it much because the format didn't catch my attention well enough.
Moving forward to 3 years later, my father and I had just picked up my sister from her tutor place. When we arrived at our home, Millionaire was broadcasting and needless to say, that was the day I was hooked. The music, the lighting, and the legendary Lai Van Sam made the show perfect! And in 2013, Vietnamese was at its peak, so that makes a great introduction to Millionaire for me. Our family would always tune in every Tuesday night to watch the show, and it was probably the best memory ever in my head!
My interest of Vietnamese Millionaire dragged all the way through late 2014 when other things started to take priority and I began to lose interest in watching television, and that was my craze hiatus right there.
In late 2020, I was surfing through YouTube when I saw a recommendation for UK Millionaire, which really surprised me, because in 2018, I briefly watched the 20th Anniversary season, so I was stoked to see that it has been renewed! And from there, it was like catching up with an old friend. Thanks to that, it allowed me to discover a community of people who enjoyed the show like I did, and I learned more about Millionaire than I would've thought.
I am so grateful to have stumbled upon this show because it has totally changed me for the better (I was shy to admit that I truly liked this show so much but once I did, it really built my self-esteem up!), and I'm also happy to have the opportunity to attend the recent taping of the U.S version of the show, which allows me to express my interest in general!
