Ever since "Deal or No Deal" began on NBC in the U.S., ABC has tried many times to create a gameshow to feed off of its success. "Show Me the Money," among countless others, have been quick flops and money-losers for the network.
So WHY then does the network not bring back its most successful game show for a quick ratings-gaining run? If ever there was a time to bring it back, preferably in the form of Super Millionaire, now was the time. The table is set:
1) Meredith's Millionaire is doing fantastic due to her morning show debut on NBC
2) Deal or No Deal continues to be a ratings success
3) Regis' morning show continues to grow in popularity, not to mention his recent newsbreaking surgery and role in "Shrek the Third"
4) Regis' primetime Millionaire still gets recognition for being a fantastic series- its the highest rated show on GSN, won GSN's "Gameshow Hall of Fame" honor, and Regis was named 15th Greatest Game Show Host of all time by Time magazine.
Why can't ABC, or any other network capable of picking up the show, realize what they are sitting on and give the show a new run, if not a week-long test or weekly show for a month? They wouldn't be any worse off then they already are.

Yeah. I think he's one of the stepsisters, along with Larry King.

And we can add two new reasons to the list:
5) The success of "Slumdog Millionaire".
6) The series' tenth anniversary this year.
But now it looks like we'll be getting our wish, so let's just hope ABC executives finalize the decision to revive the show in summer 2009.

Yeah, it's just a matter of hurry up and wait, now.

Incidentally, was Regis present at the US premier of 'Slumdog Millionaire', do you know? (Stupid question, I know!)

I think the reason there are so many flops, how can you do better than what you had before. Millionaire was so great, they probably can't think of anything better to put out. Also, if they put anything out better than Millionaire, they would be risking Millionaire's ratings. Just a thought

Overall, ABC is in a definate slump, especially for game shows. WWTBAM is probably one of the few shows that is barely keeping that network alive on cable, along with "Wipeout," "The Bachelor/Bachelorette," "Grey's Anatomy," and "Brothers and Sisters." I agree beyond 100% with Regisfan. Super Millionaire should be back on the network, but not daily. The show can save ABC, but if it airs daily, viewers would start getting tired of the $10M jackpot. It should be taped once a month or once a week.
