I've looked through the forums and haven't seen a post like this yet, so I'll ask.
Millionaire has gone several years without a "true" million-dollar winner (Sorry, Sam, but Tournament of 10 doesn't count in my book). My question is, are the questions getting harder? If so, why? Or, are the contestants just not as brainy as they used to be?
Personally, I think the questions are starting to get a little ridiculous. I've never failed to make it to the eighth or ninth question, but after that, the difficulty scale goes through the roof. I consider myself lucky to make it to $100,000, if contestants make it that far.

I think that it's kind of a combination of both, more on the harder questions, though. See, I think the Fastest Finger kind of showed who was really smart. To get into the Hot Seat through the Fastest Finger certainly wasn't easy. But I do know they have made the audition test harder since FF is gone. I see a lot of contestants using their lifelines on the first 5 questions. Back in the primetime version, the first 5 were no-brainers. Now, in order to get the right answers to those questions, you have to use logic, which some contestants don't seem to have. I also think the clock makes them panic a bit. If they don't understand the question the first time they read it, they'll be like "um, uh" then Meredith goes "5 seconds!" and the contestant, out of panic, goes "uh, uh Ask the Audience!" Once the player uses the lifeline they realize the answer. So, I think it's a combination of all of these things. Although, I believe the harder questions attribute to this the most.

They desperately need new question writers, as I've said before. Some questions during the 10th Anniversary show were horribly obscure, like most of the Obama-related questions (every single episode had an Obama Question). Questions like the one about Sasha and Malia Obama's Secret Service codenames (1. who cares? and 2. who honestly knows that except those who work close to the government like the White House Press Corps), or what movie Barack and Michelle went to see on their first date I believe was another question. Then you have questions like the "Happy Birthday To you.. and many more" when "And Many More" is really not found in the central and western U.S. (it is very popular in New York and the east coast, where the show is taped, but most people west of that do not use that line)

Some of these questions are way too obscure. Like leimeisei said, the one about Sasha and Malia's Secret Service codenames. Another one was the question about how many Social Security numbers have been issued. It was so hard that everyone was simply laughing at it:
They really need to make the questions easier. I'm not saying they need to dumb down the show drastically, nor do they need to just be handing out money. But right now it's like they're locking it in a safe and making the contestant figure out the combination.

The funny thing is that I think Sam's MDQ for the Tournament of Ten was much easier than that Social Security question, which should've been the $10 Million question in Super Millionaire!

That social security number question, should have been the million dollar question.

As leimeisei brought up with Millionaire needing new question writers, is it possible, with all the changes the new exec. producer is bringing up, that new question writers could be hired? Just a thought, since Michael Davies is apparently out of the picture.

It's definitely the questions, they are now focusing on writing questions that has an uncommon topic in them like a short-lived tv show or not-popular or uncommon slogans. Someone on youtube uploaded a video about a question that mentioned the song "Happy Birthday To You" and in my family we sing that song in every birthday but we've never sung the lyric "And many more", when I saw that episode I just bummed out on that question. They definitely need to lower the difficulty of the questions

I did get the question, but I've never heard it actually sung.

Really? Neither of you have heard "and many more"? I never thought that was a regional thing. I guess it is!

The "Happy Birthday" song isn't a regional song, it depends on the area. The writers shouldn't make questions about a topic that has variations cause that would confuse the player and he would never even hear about the other versions of the topic.
