I don't know about you guys, but it seems as if Millionaire has been getting tougher and tougher as the years progressed. When Regis was hosting, questions did get progressively harder, but a few early questions were very simple and funny. Also many questions are now based on current events as opposed to knowledge questions. With simply 15 questions, the 3 original lifelines, and Regis Philbin, it looks like there were more Millionaire winners. Not only with the new game format, but also with the questions themselves, it looks harder to even get to $25,000. So what does everyone think? Was it better 5-10 years ago? Now? Also is it good that the questions are not so much about knowledge and rather music, movies, stars, etc? Let me know Thanks! Millionairefan28

Well, you have to remember about all the people who have been in Classic Millionaire so far this season...

I don't know about you guys, but it seems as if Millionaire has been getting tougher and tougher as the years progressed. I get a lot of comments in my videos about this subject pretty regularly and the simple answer is, Yes, they have gotten more difficult. It's most likely from a fiscal standpoint. When the show was in prime time with Regis, the ratings here absolutely huge, racking in about, what, 30-35% of the US population watching every show? That was unheard of back in those days. With that many people watching, ABC could charge a fortune to run a commercial during Millionaire's time slot. That being said, the first thing on their mind is "How can we keep these numbers?" Easier questions = more big winners. More big winners = more viewers. More viewers = higher ratings. Higher ratings = $$$$$. When the show went into daytime syndication, it doesn't have near the amount of viewers (roughly 4.75 Million per show now, as opposed to God only knows back in prime time). With that, they can't get as much money for a commercial and can't afford to pay out as many big winners, so the questions become much more difficult. Up until last year, it felt that a $100,000 syndicated question was about the same difficulty as a $1 Million question in prime time, give or take. I believe the only reason the questions aren't even more difficult than they currently are is because the show is only liable for $250,000 per contestant, with an insurance company paying anything over that. If they were completely liable for everything, I don't think we would see nearly as many people making it as far as they have been. Finally, we have been seeing quite a few people make it into round 2 and winning a great deal of money so far this season. It would not surprise me at all if the difficulty ramped up just a bit later in the season or next season. This new format is pretty expensive for them it seems! Mech

I think the fact that we have more current events is simply down to how long the show has been on. Just think of the number of questions that have been written for the show throughout the shows history.... that's a LOT of questions! and the writers need to keep coming up with NEW questions! The only true way to make sure that you're not using a question that has been used before on the primetime show, syndicated show or any of the many games and books... is to look at current events.
.....there have been some pretty easy questions this season though and I'm amazed the contestant didn't know them.... but, then again I've never had to stand there with all the lights and cameras pointed at me :-P

I think it's a mix of harder questions and.. Well, in a nice way to put it, unprepared contestants. Some of the contestants didn't know questions that seemed very obvious to me.. But regardless, I think the biggest thing would have to be the contestants.

Over the years the Italian Millionaire has become much difficult. This change began in 2007 when the money tree was changed and switch the question was available from the first question. The questions become slightly more difficult. Now with the new format, including 3 lifeline and only two milestones (the milestone of the million and one chosen by the contestant), all questions are difficult. This is the reason why the Italian background music of the first 5 questions has been slowed.

I think German millionaire has gotten harder too, but you also have to keep in mind that society changed. When you watch reruns of shows from 1999 with questions about cell phones or whatever, they were definitely harder then than they are now. Not everybody had a cell phone. In turn, younger generations may lack knowledge older people consider self-evident. A few days ago, I visited Jeff Gross' millionaire site and took a look at the statistics. When you compare season 1 of syndicated millionaire with season 3, for example, you will notice that season 1 gave away nearly double of what was won in season 3. I think this clearly shows that the questions did indeed get harder. Maybe Nancy Christy and Kevin Smith made the producers think the questions were too easy...
