As you've undoubtedly noticed, the Shout Box has been removed. Unfortunately, this was one of those cases where one jerk ruined it for everyone else. It's a shame that there are people out there who have nothing better to spend their time harassing others. This guy definitely has some issues he needs to resolve - however, the Shout Box is not the place to do it. It's time to take away his podium and relieve ourselves of his nonsense.
However, the Shout Box was an addition to the site that was very positively received by you guys, so I definitely want to reinstate it at some point. However, it's clear to me that we need need to have the Shout Box tied to the boards somehow. In other words, members need to be able to provide a username/password to use the Shout Box, or the Shout Box has to be invisible until members log in to the boards. I really like Proboards, but they have poor Shout Box support, so I really can't look internally for a solution.
So, I'm throwing it out to you guys. Several of you are computer whizzes and can probably come with a solution that I could never even think of, and others may know a better third-party Shout Box provider than ShoutMix that makes the type of Shout Box that we're looking for. If you have a solution, please let me know ASAP so we can get the gears turning on a replacement Shout Box.
Thank you all for your understanding. I look forward to hearing your ideas.

I've always hosted my own forums which gives the most control over stuff like that for obvious reasons, so I don't know much about Proboards or what they give you access to and what you can edit. I assume you can't edit the page itself and insert code snippets? If you can, you could just put it back in on a member's only page, or for that matter, just make the forums members only where you need an account to access them (painful I know) Here's another possibility, but I don't think it gives any added security over what Shout Box had. (http://www.cbox.ws/). Edit: I also would like to direct your attention to this forum. I found it while looking for alternatives. They seem to have found some options to make it more secure or put in a members only area, and it looks like they are also hosted on proboards. saybox.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=customy&action=display&thread=1909

Yeah, I'm looking into Saybox as we speak. Please stand by.
I've experimented with putting the Shout Box in a password-protected forum on the boards. Ultimately, it kind of defeats the purpose of the Shout Box if it's not on the top for everyone to see all the time. No one wants to make the special trip.

Supposedly theres a header script you can put in that keeps it on the main forum page, but only appears if you are logged in.

Right. I activated an account there so I could explore the features, but they haven't emailed me the link to my Shout Box yet. Expect a test integration with the boards as soon as I'm able to get it up and running.
