Thanks wangsaci but I'll just buy the font. Glad the video is providing some amusement. I was thrilled when my brother dug up the old VHS.

So I just dropped 36 bucks on the Conduit Bold, and I go into Visual Studio (2010) and I get: "Only TrueType fonts are supported. This is not a TrueType font."
I am absolutely appalled at Microsoft's lack of dedication to a standard they've been involved in since 1996. According to Wikipedia, even hold the trademark for the name. How can, in 2010, their development environment for their 'modern' framework not support a simple OpenType font, something that was meant, by Microsoft themselves, to replace TrueType 15 years ago?
I've found references (and open tickets at Microsoft) basically saying that OpenType isn't supported without using non-managed components. I thought the .NET framework was supposed to be modern?
And yet, from Wikipedia (Windows Presentation Foundation): "WPF includes a number of typographic and text rendering features that were not available in GDI. This is the first Windows programming interface to expose OpenType features to software developers, supporting OpenType, TrueType, and OpenType CFF (Compact Font Format) fonts."
I'm on Windows 7, .NET framework (will check version but I can't imagine VS 2010 would let me use something other than a recent version).
Confused. I live in Java world at my day-job, so I haven't tasted any Redmond in a while. Will take it to a programming forum if I can't figure it out myself. Packing it in for the night. Ugh!
Edit: So you have to specifically ask for WPF. Odd. Only seeing "User Control (WPF)" in the add new item dialog. I guess I have some learning to do.

Isn't there a way to convert an otf to a ttf? I could've sworn.. If not, there's gotta be a .NET library out there for rendering otf fonts... If worse comes to worse, send me a PM and I'll send you over a file or two help you

Thanks and I'll let you know if I can't get around it any other way leimeisei. I have found a TTF version for sale as well somewhere else. Or so they claim. I just want to do everything by the book. That said, I may end up being able to use OpenType. If I design my graphical windows using WPF instead of Winforms I can use OpenType. And it comes with other advantages including a vector-based scaling graphics rendering platform. Similar to how an SVG works, it's called XAML. You can, with the appropriate Microsoft product, import PSDs and turn the non-raster stuff into XAML assets. This could be really good for the project since I'd not have to worry about the exact resolution the end user was running their system. (My original idea was to enforce a height, scaling only the west-east lines so you could do 16:9 or 4:3, since all graphics assets would be flattened into PNGs and stored in binary). I will make a valiant effort at learning the world of WPF since it seems to have advantages. I'm still really disappointed that base Windows/GDI/VS.NET/whoever can't handle OpenType. It's not cutting edge, and I don't expect all the high-tech extensions to work, but supporting a basic OTF seems pretty little to ask. Oh well, live and learn. On the upside I got my 2nd video card today, once installed I should have 5 monitor outs

A couple more questions for the truly observant Millionaire fan. Mostly out of idle curiosity rather than it being needed for the project 1: The lifeline pings in the US version sound in order of decreasing pitch (Being a US classic Millionaire fan, I prefer this), while the UK (I think) seems to play them in increasing pitch. Further, the order that the lifelines light up changes season-to-season. Where they're arranged, left to right, above the money tree as: 50/50, Phone, Ask Audience- [/li][li], [ *], [ * ] seems to be common on lots of old US Millionaire clips. But I've also seen them go from left to right. Anyone know when/why they change the sequence? 2: The Super Millionaire 'Intro / Recap' music cue (or something very similar) seems to get a lot of use as a going/back from commercial break ditty. I really like it in this capacity. The UK soundtrack CD, and ABC's entry on the TV music museum, omit this track and include only the classic away/back commercials tune. It's been used plenty outside of Super Millionaire though. So my question is, when did its use begin, and was this music really introduced with Super Millionaire or does it have a more interesting past? A couple of stumpers to be sure, but I'm having fun. Thank goodness for YouTube, else I'd be busting out the VCR and probably not finding many episodes.

1. I think it just depends on the way the Sound Operator hits the buttons to ping them. I am almost certain there's no secret meaning behind which way they do it. 2. That music was composed to be used as the Introduction for Super Millionaire episodes. There is no record of it being used prior.

Please don't offer to distribute premium fonts, it's quite illegal. well, ok then, thanks for reminding me, I didn't know that. My bad, sorry. Most Windows Vista/7 computers alreay have the ConduitITC font family installed. If not on Windows XP, i'm sure there is a freeware font available that is very similar!

Hey wangsacl, Anyway you could send me an e-mail at TWENTYFOUR04@YAHOO.com I've been looking FOREVER and would love to maybe trade something ... Cheers Trading and/or reselling is illegal and should not be discussed here. In addition, giving out your email on a public forum is a really really stupid idea.

Not only that, but he made the offer to the person that we specifically warned about the illegality of the action in the first place. I mean, come on, really???
