Some time before the shuffle format was announced I came up with an idea for a new format. It is pretty similar to the shuffle format but there are some important differences:
1. Money Tree:
500,000
250,000
100,000
75,000
35,000
20,000
10,000
5,000
3,000
1,000
500
200
150
100
50
There are no safety nets. The value of the answered question will be added to a bank, which, if all 15 questions are answered correctly, accumulates to 1,000,000.
2. Lives:
Each contestant is given three lives. If they answer a question incorrectly the contestant will lose a life.
Additionally they do not get the money value of the question and their current bank will be cut by half (e.g.: The contestant has three lives and 40,000. They answer the question for an additional 35,000 incorrectly. One life is lost, the bank is cut to 20,000 and they don’t get the additional 35,000).
If a contestant gives two consecutive wrong answers, they have to leave the game (even if they still have one life left).
Losing all three lives results in the end of the game. The contestant can keep 1% of their winnings before they lost all lives (e.g. a contestant has 130,000 before they dropped out of the game. They will go home with 1.300).
The contestant can walk away any time as long as they haven’t given a final answer. In that case they can keep all of their winnings
3. Lifelines:
The contestant is given three lifelines:
• Ask the Audience: The contestant is given one opportunity to ask the studio audience which answer to a game question they believe is correct. Members of the studio audience indicate their choices by pressing the key on their keypad corresponding to the correct answer
• Double Dip: The contestant can give two answers on one question. Once this lifeline has been logged in, the contestant must not walk away or use any more lifelines for this question. Giving two wrong answers results in the contestant losing one life.
• Switch the Question: The contestant is given the opportunity to replace one question with a question of the same difficulty. Any lifelines used on the first question will not be reinstated.
4. Modification: Time Limits
As a variant, timed questions can be introduced, in which
all questions are given a time limit in which a final answer must be given. The limits are:
30 seconds for questions 1 to 5
1 minute for questions 6 to 10
3 minutes for questions 11 – 15
This variant includes another lifeline, Freeze the Clock, which stops the clock for one question.
If the clock expires, the contestant loses one life.
Btw, I have thought about removing the highest money value whenever the contestants loses a life but I don't know whether that would make it too hard to win the million or not...
What do you guys think?
