According to Buzzerblog ( link to article), Regis announced today on Regis and Kelly that he is retiring sometime this summer or fall. It's been 28 years since the talk show first debuted, and that's certainly not all he's done - he holds the Guinness World Record for the most time spent in front of a TV camera, at 16,100 hours in 2008. And of course, there's Millionaire. Had it not been for that, I probably wouldn't be writing this. Let's face it: Meredith may a great host, but she's no Regis. Nobody is, and that's what's so great about him. I know everyone here will miss him being on our television screens.

Maybe now that he won't be busy with Regis and Kelly, ABC will do another season of Primetime Millionaire!
I know that probably won't happen unfortunately. Hopefully this isn't the marker for the end of his Television career, but if indeed it is, then he's had quite a great one. Still have memories of when I was 8 years old sitting in front of a TV with my family watching that very first season of Millionaire. I didn't know the answer to a single question, but I loved watching Regis and I thought the show was so cool because of how eerie and dark they made the set look back then, and the music, which I thought was super creepy.
Where does the time go, my friends? Where does the time go...

I saw his announcement live as it aired this morning, but I couldn't make it to Millionaire Fans until now. Truly, this is the end of a television era. Regis has had a great run, perhaps the greatest, and the television landscape just won't be the same without him. I'm sure he'll be hosting events now and again, but it's going to be hard not seeing him every morning.
I had a feeling that after his buddy Larry King retired, Regis would step down himself. When I was at my taping of Live!, he hinted that he was getting close to retirement, although I didn't think he'd mean within the year. I consider myself extremely lucky that I got to meet him before he retired. I imagine he'll move to California to be with his children and grandchildren now, and I think he'll be very happy.

I knew this was coming, I had gotten a few tips back in December that he was going to retire from Live!. I guess he was really pressured by Joy. I don't know if that's true or not but that's what I heard. I just hope that maybe he'll host Millionaire again once in a while as a special. Millionaire never has been quite the same without him.

I don't think that pressured is necessarily the right word, but I think Joy really wanted to be with her kids and grandkids in California, and I think Regis thinks that the time is right to make that happen. Years ago, she said that she never wanted him to retire, so I guess they both figure that the time has come to wrap up Live! and be close to their family.

It is rather sad that Regis will be retiring. But he is elderly and he needs to rest. The man however can keep things active for a long time! ;D Well...true, Millionaire won't be the same without him but for sure he was a great host and I know that for sure, he'll be happy this way.

Well, I think that if Millionaire ever returns to primetime for a special run, Regis would be there. I think there's less of a chance that Millionaire would return to primetime than there is of Regis not returning to host if that scenario occurred.
I don't think he's retired from television forever. I just think we'll be seeing much less of him.

Regis' departure from Live! has been postponed until November, allowing Gelman to put together a bigger farewell event and placing Regis' finale during sweeps week. Looks like we'll be able to get a daily dose of Regis for just a bit longer!

And for those who are curious, he was a panelist during the 1st Season championship game of the ESPN game show 2-Minute Drill, hosted by Kenny Mayne.

And, of course, who could forget him on Deal or No Deal, when Howie Mandel asked a contestant for her "final answer."
