Alright, so for those of you who have seen Tuesday's show, where the woman gets all the way to round 2 without a lifeline, Jumps the $100,000 question, then trusts the audience on the $250,000 and gets it wrong... Why do people not know how to use the Ask the Audience lifeline anymore? It seems to be a recent thing, too. It used to be, when only 39 or 40% of the audience said an answer, you either used another lifeline or walked. Especially on a high level question like the one the woman faced today. But it's been happening a lot more often recently. The way I figure is, these are the three rules for ATA: - Do NOT use the lifeline after you've stated an answer that you "think it could possibly be" because people in the audience who don't know the answer will vote for the answer you said.
- If possible, restrict the use of the lifeline to popular culture or current events and recent history
- If you're on a high-stakes question, do NOT go for the answer the audience gives you unless they give nearly unanimous and clear results.
What do you think?

FrankT: I am confident that, unless the producers do what they did that one day with Ken Basin and lower all the questions by one difficulty level, there will never be a chance of another Millionaire. He's the only person who has reached the MDQ in the past who knows how many seasons now. They just make the questions at the end way too obscure, to the point of being impossible.

What do you think? That's what I've been saying all along! I thought the question was stupid question to use Ask the Audience on. I would've just jumped it especially if she wasn't sure about it. The audience didn't have a clear vote either and I thought it was dumb to just go for it. I even made sure I taped it today because I thought she was gonna win. I didn't see the video since I'm on dialup and it takes forever for me to view videos, but with the way she was going, I was sure she was going to make it.

A: Bellybutton [guessed and popular audience vote] B: Knee C: Forehead [correct] D: Shoulder
The $100,000 question she jumped: A famous 1935 edition of the James Joyce novel "Ulysses" features illustrations by what renowned painter? A: Rene Magritte B: Henri Matisse [correct answer] C: Piet Mondrian D: Joan Miro

Also its worth saying, the woman they had on directly after was a trainwreck and didn't know the answer to a single question. The audience got her the answer to the first one, which luckily for her was worth $25,000, because she jumped the next two and then walked.
Two of them were really easy too: "While knighted males are addressed as "Sir" in the U.K., knighted females are addressed as what?" A. Matron B. Sister C. Dame D. Mistress
Which of these terms is often used to refer to a retiree who heads south for the winter? A. Freebird [lol] B: Firebird [lmao] C: Lovebird [definitely not it] D: Snowbird [completely obvious and the correct answer]
And she giggled really annoyingly the whole time.

All I know is the Millionaire drought continues... Yeah, no kidding. Come on Millionaire, come on contestants! 8 years, approximately. I actually can't blame the contestants because I know if I go on I'd make maybe 3-5 questions right. fyi: I don't believe Sam Murray's Million Dollar T.O.T. victory should count as a regular winner because he did not answer all 14/15 questions as a regular winner does, still a great job though, don't get me wrong.

For someone who seemed so bright, I was really disappointed that the contestant went with the audience poll results on a question of such high difficulty. That's something I would never, ever do. Ask the Audience becomes pretty much useless once you get that high on the money ladder, unless you happen to be looking at a pop culture question.
You know, it's kind of funny when you think about it. The game has arguably become easier this season. The money ladder is shorter, you can win big early and gain a confidence boost, and you can hop over two questions that you don't know the answer to. Yet despite all that, the contestants have been playing really, really badly. It's almost as if people just get too relaxed jumping over questions and forget all about strategy. Contestants are simply not using their lifelines properly. Yes, more people are making it to the upper tier this season, but I think that's more of a result of adding Jump the Question than it is in players' competency levels. We're seeing some of the worst contestants that we've ever seen.
On a completely unrelated note, did anyone listen carefully to Meredith reading the commercial break question? She said it was a $100,000 question from the year 2000. I'm pretty sure that there weren't any $100,000 questions in the year 2000, just $125,000 questions. Perhaps the producers want all of the dollar amounts from the classic money ladder altered to fit the new money ladder so as not to confuse viewers.

I noticed that too actually, I was wondering if they goofed or what but you could be right on that. And I answered the question correctly too. As for people not using their lifelines properly, I completely agree. I was actually really disappointed with the contestant after the first one. She used all three lifelines on the first three questions. I've noticed that happening way too much lately. I don't know if people want to save their jump and ask the audience instead or what's up with that. Unless like you said, it's a pop culture question, it's almost stupid to use AtA. I think people freak out seeing hard questions to start with but some of those answers are so darn obvious that you'd need to be living under a rock not to know the answers to them or at least figure them out.

And I cannot believe that the lady on afterwards did not answer a single question from her own brain. She used her lifelines on all 3 of her questions!
