Carlos Sobera, the host of the spanish WWTBAM version, from 2001-2002 and 2005-2009, was so funny and so great. He had to read very funny questions, like this one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYighOjmSKkIf somebody could translate the question... ^^' Only one person won the great prize in Spain (2001, 50 million pesetas/300.000€). He did like the very first USA millionaire: call his mom (not his dad, his mom) to tell her that he was going to win the 50 million. Here is the video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2KOptzkej0If somebody could translate (again...) ^^' In 2009, he was replaced by a worse host, called Antonio Garrido. It was the 12 question format, of course it didn't make it to the year on TV. And I think that's all...

I could certainly help on that subject! (I'm Spanish, BTW)
First question:
What has been Rocco Siffredi's main problem, during his total 1300 X-rated film shootings? A: Going soft B: Jealous husbands C: Bee stung his thingy D: Strait-laced actresses
And the question worth 50.000.000 Pts was this:
Copra is obtained from which fruit? A: Pineapple B: Cherry C: Coconut D: Apricot
One piece of interesting trivia about the Spanish version is that, during the first incarnation, the questions' material were more... academic in nature (the only "valid" reference was the "Enciclopedia Espasa", which, though not directly stated, sponsored the show). During the second incarnation, the questions were less "formal" and more trivial (they could ask you why Lady Godiva decided to ride naked, or which is the official provider of potted shrimp for the Queen of England -- these are just two examples of this "revamped" questions). This change in the questions' content was, according to host Carlos Sobera, in order to "surprise the viewer".

That first question was... interesting, to say the least.
As for the second question, did you see that they actually used a phone for the PaF? It's wireless and not as clunky, but it reminds me of the UK premiere episode. Speaking of which, how come the clock didn't start during the Phone a Friend?

Because on PaF, the contestant didn't ask the question. Oh, and the contestant called his wife, not his mom. ^^'

That is really cool, he did just what John Carpenter did. Thank you for the video of another millionaire.

Carlos Sobera as Host and the SHUFFLE Format!! Now I am intrigued. The US Are currently the only people with the format, but they won't be soon if Spain comes along. I find it interesting that they didn't use the Hotseat versoion. millionaireloveruk @abstactwb

millionaireloveruk, you're right. If we air it, the US will no longer be the only country to air it. jadenmillionaire, the Hotseat version aired in Spain, but not for more than a year. It would be interesting to watch the shuffle format here in Spain in daily version and the prize of 1.000.000€ or 300.000€.

------UPDATE-----
Sorry for double-posting, but this has to be known. Antena 3 has bought to 2waytraffic, Valleycrest and Disney-ABC the rights to air the US shuffle format!

Do you think they'll use two jumps or +1, I think +1 personally.

Wow, I didn't expect the format to return to Spain this quickly after "El Millonario", which I found tedious to watch. It's gonna be interesting to see how the format works differently in another country, in terms of dynamics, candidates' willingness to risk, etc.
Where did you get that information, btw? I couldn't find anything when I tried to Google it. Is there an article somewhere?
