I was going through some of my usual game show sites and came across a small thing about Japanese Millionaire. I was reading up on it and discovered that they had two small week long Super Millionaire events where the money was raised on the first week, then made easier to obtain on the second.
This sounds fine but there were some pretty crazy differences that made it a unique version.
Change 1: There were 10 questions to the top prize.
Week 1 money tree:
¥10,000
¥100,000
¥250,000
¥500,000
¥1,000,000
¥2,500,000
¥5,000,000
¥10,000,000
¥15,000,000
¥20,000,000
Week 2 is the same except for a ¥10,000,000 prize so half all the amounts after ¥1,000,000.
Difference 2: There were NO safe havens. One question wrong and you lost it all regardless of position.
Difference 3: You only had 2 lifelines. Phone a Friend and Ask The Audience. Why?
Difference 4: All questions after the ¥1,000,000 amount were played on a permanent 50:50. You had a one in two shot of getting large amounts of cash.
And possibly the biggest one... Difference 5: After question 8, YOU COULDN'T WALK AWAY! For the last two questions, you either were walking out with it all or nothing.
I personally think that this is a fantastic version and must amp up the tension to 11. I would of loved to see this come as an American version with $2 Million as the prize.
So what do you think of it?

I would like to see how this would work over in the US and if it did, they should make an Australian/ New Zealand Version (Meaning both Kiwis and Aussies can play)
also, I think they did have 50:50 for questions 1 through 5, then i think they lost it from Question 6 because of the already mentioned reason

WOW, This is a really tense game! (No safehavens, No walking away after a question, Permanent 50:50!) This game is really unusual and to be quite honest I love it:3 kimarough Do you have any episodes per chance? |

I have the same comment about this as I do about the Millionaire Hot Seat money tree. Why even have 10M and 15M up there?

Possibly just to fill space up. It would look strange if they left that space blank so they just filled it (like Hot Seat) with amounts that just look good and fit in it.

This is what I hate about the hot seat format, most of the money amounts are absolutely pointless because you cannot win them, meaning there are only 6 amounts that you could win, even FFF was better then hot seat |

Yeah. The whole point of a money tree is that each amount on it is up for grabs.

It does have to coincide with Millionaire format regulations so there has to be money amounts there. At least Hot Seat is better than shuffle.

I happen to think Hot Seat is a horrible format. It's broken, first of all. A player runs the first 13 questions, misses the 14th (because he isn't gonna pass at that point), and the next player in line gets $1000 for doing nothing, and one question for $250,000? I don't think so. I saw one contestant use her Pass lifeline on a question she knew the answer to, only because she knew she had to hurry up and get in line if she was going to make it back around for the final question. A) It's nothing but a blind guess when to do that, and B) The idea of purposefully not answering a question you know the answer to completely flies in the face of Millionaire. Don't get me started on the change in atmosphere. The suspense is sucked out of the room like a vacuum. Count me as one who does NOT like the set or the music. |

Millionaire Hot Seat has been the only thing airing here in NZ and AUS for the past 3-4 years so we get what we can take. The main thing I like about Hot Seat (and timed Millionaire in general) is the fact that it goes at a good pace and doesn't get stale. I think that we all have to admit that there are episodes of Millionaire where we saw someone ponder over an answer for 5 minutes and not take it, and like everyone else, we got annoyed. Hot Seat makes people think on their feet and go with something even if they aren't fully sure with it. With a normal episode of Millionaire, even though there are 15 questions on the tree, it doesn't mean you are gonna get 15 questions. With Hot Seat, you get 15 questions per episode. You know that from the get go.
Case and Point: Don't think of Hot Seat as Millionaire. Think of it as a show with the Millionaire licence that does its own thing.

I am sorry to say this but Hotseat really does suck! To be honest it really isn't Millionaire. Would it be that hard to add in some classic lifelines, and Music instead of Pass. To be honest I think they just need to revive 2007's Multi-Millionaire. And don't even get me started on not being able to take amounts home. I think it is pointless becasue the idea of the traditional money tree is that you can climb to the top retrieving all amounts.
