I can't really think of any other lifelines that would be entirely new and would be a fresh addition to the game. Maybe swap the category? Or re-shuffle?

Bring back the 50-50, purely because we haven't seen it in the US. I think you may have worded this bit wrong: the US used 50:50 through the whole primetime era and until the clocked era.

bring back the 50-50, purely because we haven't seen it in the US, in what seems like an eternity since the clock and shuffle era Millionaire lover UK, if you look closely i put we havent seen it in the us.... For an eternity because of Clock and Shuffle! Don't worry though, everyone seems to make mistakes these days- I know I do sometimes!, I could have been slightly clearer with my wording. The only problem with "Swap the Category" is that it is virtually just like switch. Also since the latest season with Terry Crews they removed the categories for the Plus One. Bad idea I think

Wow, I didn't even know that they removed the categories. That's pretty stupid if you ask me, it takes away from the game having more strategy.

I couldn't agree more. The "Millionaire Menu" really created a specific atmosphere to the game; at twist in such ways which enables the game to be more exciting. I.e. if there is a category which you are really confident in, but you have to pass a tricky question and finding out what your questions are before hand are great elements to the game. But the reason which I find hardly any logic to is that it will class with Plus One which I find is total rubbish, they are trying to prevent strategy when really they are making the game worse and the time for a new millionaire much longer...

I think they honestly should add the Plus One or another Jump the Question after the first round is completed. Gives the contestant more of a push to go after the questions harder I think.

I think, if the clock format were still a thing, they could have added a lifeline which froze the timer for a set amount of time - say, 15 seconds - with any remaining time on the lifeline being unbankable if/when the contestant gives their answer. Maybe "Time Freeze" or "Extra Time" or something like that?

Well the thing is "Ask the expert" in a way did have a function like that because it enabled everyone to have an extended amount of time to just think and listen to the question. However I would agree that the producers should have implemented the clock more into the game through lifelines and not just banking it to the end. I like the fact that when you use your "Extra Time" lifeline, the seconds are not banked in the process.

Maybe "Time Freeze" or "Extra Time" or something like that? They did that with a different game show, which I still don't get why it was so short lived on ABC:

I think there should be a lifeline where a player can move on to the next question regardless of the player's final answer, but if the answer is wrong, all their money in the bank will be cut in half. I'm not sure if this will be a good lifeline, but at least I have an idea.

While I believe that your lifeline proposal is a totally good idea, I doubt that it would be on air due to the fact that we already have Jump-The-Question. What you are saying is that instead of just leaving a question, the contestant can indeed have a guess. However there will be risks involved if you get the question wrong. My favourite idea of the lifeline is that there is an opportunity to take a risk, even if you do not have the required knowledge. Whilst I think that this lifeline is good, we do have a lifeline which allows us to ditch the question - however the producers may want to make the game more interesting! Also however, it is unlikely that a new lifeline will be added this early but we may see an addition in a later season of Terry Crews' run. You must remember that we have already seen the addition of the temporary Cut the question and Plus One! I actually really like your idea Milliondollarsav!

One of my ideas for a lifeline would be Ask the Companion, where you could see what your companion that you brought to the show thought the answer might be. This then removes the spread of results ATA has but doesn't have the precision of an answer that PAF has. You'd really have to know the person well in order to judge if they knew the answer or went for a guess. This could also be a good tactical move as you could bring a past Millionaire contestant or a quiz master with you and improve your chances of getting the million. Alternatively, Ask the Host would also be fantastic, most notably with Chris Tarrant as you have seen many times how much he wants the contestant to win money, and again just adds to the tension of the show on the host as well. The host would have to be very good at keeping a straight face however as to not give it away by showing "Hey, I know the answer, use Ask the Host!" A good bit of trivia is back in the pilot of Cash Mountain, they were in fact going to add Ask the Host I believe, or at least very early on in Millionaire's life as I'm sure I can recall and old trailer from 1998 with Chris Tarrant saying "You can even ask me for help."

Sam, on the basis of Ask the Companion, that really does match the profile of the Plus One lifeline launches in Season Thirteen in the United States. Using this lifeline, you can bring a friend of yours to the studio in person and ask for their imput and feelings towards the question. So why did they do this? Well firstly Phone-a-friend was removed which I believe was quite a bad decision due to the rising number of people using internet search engines to what is actually in your own head. Because of this a legendary part of the game was removed, interaction with a peer. Luckily, only recently they realised that they needed something similar so that brought in Plus One - You have to be able to trust your friend under pressure! On regards to Ask the host, I believe that it would be an absolutely brilliant idea, as the main focus of the game is to give away money; it's fun! With this lifeline it would be great as the contestant would have to think about the host. For example, Meredith Viera as a journalist would have a good knowledge on world events, however Chris Tarrant, may know a bit more about what people like as a Radio Presenter.

Ah, I don't watch the US version, so I had no idea about the Plus One lifeline.
